What a cookie is
A cookie is a small file the site stores in your browser to remember a choice.
This site's cookies
Here is the full list. All are set by SmartExtraLab itself, only after an action on your part. The “__Host-sel_admin” cookie only concerns the site's publisher: it is set only when logging in to the administration area, never for visitors.
| Name | What it is for | When it is set | Content | Duration | Category |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
lang | Remember the chosen language (French or English). | Only when you click the language button. | "fr" or "en" | 365 days | Preference (functional) |
commune | Remember the municipality chosen on the Near me page. | Only when you choose a municipality. | Official municipality code (INS code in Belgium, “FR” followed by the INSEE code in France), not your address | 180 days | Preference (functional) |
rayon | Remember the search distance chosen with the municipality. | Only when you choose a municipality. | Distance in kilometres | 180 days | Preference (functional) |
__Host-sel_admin | Keep the site's publisher securely logged in to the administration area. | Only when the publisher logs in to the administration. Never for visitors. | Random, signed session identifier (no personal data) | 8 hours at most (closed after 30 minutes of inactivity) | Strictly necessary (administration) |
What the site does not use
- No audience-measurement cookie (no Google Analytics or similar): the page-view counter works without cookies.
- No advertising cookie.
- No cookie from another site: no embedded video, no social media button, no Google font.
Why there is no cookie banner
The law requires your consent before a cookie is set, unless it is strictly necessary for a service you asked for (EU ePrivacy Directive, article 5(3); in Belgium, where the publisher is established, article 10/2 of the Data Protection Act of 30 July 2018, which replaces former article 129 of the law of 13 June 2005 on electronic communications).
The Belgian Data Protection Authority (APD/GBA), like the CNIL in France, gives the language choice as an example of a cookie exempt from consent. The three visitor cookies only remember choices you make yourself (language, municipality, distance): they fall into this case. The administration session cookie is strictly necessary for the service requested by the publisher (staying logged in securely): it is also exempt from consent. A banner is therefore not needed. We still inform you, here.
If a cookie of another category were ever added (non-exempt audience measurement, advertising, embedded video), a banner letting you accept or refuse just as easily would be set up first.
Deleting or blocking cookies
You can delete these cookies at any time in your browser settings (Privacy or Cookies section), or block them. The site works without them: you will just need to choose the language or municipality again.
