Census officer for your town
For five to six weeks at the start of the year, help Insee and the town hall count the homes in a neighbourhood.
How to get started
- Ask at the town hall in the autumn: recruitment happens before the January count.
- Attend the two compulsory half-day training sessions.
- Walk round your area to map it before the count begins.
- Visit residents, help them answer online and follow up with those who have not replied.
Skills needed
- Customer contact
- Good physical condition
Tools and equipment needed
- Nothing in particular
Good tips
- Knowing the neighbourhood well saves a lot of time.
- Towns with fewer than 10,000 inhabitants only hold a census every five years: check whether yours is due this year.
Watch out for
- The count requires evening and Saturday availability, with a lot of walking.
- You are bound by confidentiality: no information you collect may be shared.
Rules to know
